Car Parking – Important Notice

We have a car parking system installed to discourage non-patrons from using our car park. It DOES require guests to enter their car registration numbers onto a touch screen (at the bar) on arrival. No pay and display, no minimum spend. There is no parking charge for bona fide guests. (We will remind you when you come in).

About us

We’re a family business. Chris does the Landlord thing (and plays about infusing spirits and making charcuterie and stuff), Paula heads up the kitchen brigade with the help of son Dan, while daughter Becki holds the whole thing together with smiles and laughter and some pretty exceptional management skills.

Of course we’ve got great beer and all the usual drinks, but everyone talks about our food…and our hospitality, and our eclectic (some say weird) taste in furnishings and décor, and our toilets (you’ll love our lavs!), our coffee, our home made gins and ever changing wine list, and…did we mention the food? We’re a bit different and (we’re told) a bit good at what we do best; making people happy.

  • 1 star review  Cannot express how utterly disappointed I am with this place. I'd hoped that it would have changed in the 5 years since I'd been there before for dinner. On that occasion the owner told my autistic nephew that children should be seen and not heard after he became excited during our meal. Sadly it's a case of like father like daughter as the owner's daughter, now the duty manager, took exception to my 18 month old labrador's behaviour at a supposedly dog friendly pub. After overhearing me discussing with my friends how her comments and attitude towards my dog was unappreciated, she took the decision to cut off our service... but not directly. She told her bar staff to cut us off and then promptly left the building in order to avoid any recrimination on her part. A shockingly unprofessional move. Fortunately we live closer to an alternative pub, the funky bear which is close by and will be receiving my patronage in the future. I would strongly recommend people to avoid this establishment and go anywhere else in order to avoid the petty nepotistic management team and leave them to rule over their little kingdom as they see fit. Regular bar staff are understanding and friendly.

3 star review  From my experience The Butler's Arms is a falling star. It used to serve excellent tasting wholesome food, but at £9.50 for scallops for a starter, I at least expect them to be thoroughly cleaned and not gritty. I also expect the mains to be already seasoned. The brownie was sadly overpriced and merely adequate. I used to love this place but sadly it's a shadow of what it used to be....

5 star review  An attractive interior with a good selection of ales available, decent wine , but the food… the food is delicious! We had the mushroom medley , the black pudding with poached egg, shin of beef and pork belly and couldn’t fault any of it. I was slightly nervous of ordering the pork belly as it is cooked with fennel and I thought the aniseed taste might be overpowering. However it was absolutely perfect. The staff were friendly and efficient. I will unhesitatingly visit again when in the area.

  • 4 star review  Friendly welcome and good explanation of menu options. Fair selection of starters and mine proved tasty and a good portion. Duck for main was also good. Decent pint of well kept ale and wine was nice. Overall a pleasant experience.

5 star review  Don't let the traditional pub exterior fool you, walk inside and take a good look around. What lies at the heart of The Butlers Arms is suave, eclectic and creative. Is that a tall backlit top shelf behind the bar? Is that a doll with wings? Is that a vintage hair dryer above a row of passenger airline seats? It may be an enigma, but The Butlers Arms delivers food and drink choices leans towards the traditional. It has great menu offerings. It's focus is on seafood, which has a page dedicated to it. The pick of the dishes for me was the Crispy Turmeric Prawns. The batter was so light and tangy, the prawns so plump. Service was approachable, warm and accurate. The restaurant was packed, but the staff still managed to deliver my orders quickly. A high quality, refreshingly contemporary pub dining experience. Note: this is a dog friendly pub. There were dog owners and water bowls abound in the bar area.

4 star review  Had beautiful scallops with Indian spices for a starter which was delicious. Followed by a succulent rib eye steak, saute potatoes & peas.... delicious. Staff are friendly and helpful in this quirky pub.
